The Class.

A four hour CQB Rifle masterclass learning the techniques and skills used by real Tier-1 military units to help take your military acting skills to the next level. We have limited the numbers on this one to ensure better student teacher contact. This class will be taught by both Pascal Langdale and Fightmaster Daniel Levinson ensuring mocap focused takeaways.

What You'll Learn

  • Movement characteristics that are present in experienced operators vs. fresh recruits

  • Small team dynamics and body language

  • Understanding the weapon as an extension of the body in combat application.

  • The differences between specific rifle grips and shooting platforms.

  • We'll even learn some firearm language and more!

IMPORTANT: Daniel will be providing airsoft/mock assault rifles and handguns.

The most important factor is to give you personal experience and quality skills upon which you can build accurate military characters and movements.

Taught by Fight Master Daniel Levinson and assisted by Pascal Langdale, this 4 hour workshop (across two evenings) is a wonderful entry for performers who have not yet trained in firearm movement. Participants will train in firearm carrying, draws, transitions, movement alone, and in teams while, such as covering dynamic room entry. We will also be working with character and narrative. (This is a non-blank-firing workshop.) This is an excellent primer on safe weapons handling as an integral part of a compelling and dramatically effective performance.

We will be supplying all necessary gear. What we ask If you can please wear black as it helps put you into a tactical sense and it is a lot of fun for participants to take pictures all geared up in your black tactical gear and weapons are black. We all like to match our accessories right? Also please bring clean non marking shoes to change into for the class so we can keep any wet dirt outside or the Rehearsal Room’s floors.

The Tutors

Daniel Levinson has been performing, directing and teaching stage and screen combat professionally since founding Rapier Wit, Canada’s oldest stage combat school and production company, in 1991.  Daniel is proud to be a Fight Master with Fight Directors Canada, Canada's only internationally recognized transnational stage combat association. Daniel has directed fights and trained actors for companies such as: The Stratford Festival (5 seasons), Canadian Stage, Jesus Christ Superstar on Broadway, Volcano Theatre, Actors Repertory Company, Second City, A.C.T. Productions, Shakespeare In the Square, Factory Theatre, Shakespeare in the Rough, Theatre Aquarius, The Actor’s Repertory Company, Theatre Passe Muraille, The Tarragon Theatre and The Guild Festival Theatre. Daniel has taught at the University of Sheridan, the University of Toronto Mississauga, and the University of Waterloo.

Pascal Langdale is an actor known for his reliable versatility across multiple media. He has worked in TV, Film, Video Game and Voice. He is a movement specialist with an expertise in nonverbal behavior, and brings his characters to life through voice, body and psychology - all adjusted to the demands of the medium.

Recent work includes Far Cry 6 (complex Body doubling) and the voice of Bagley in Watch Dogs: Legion for which he was nominated for a Canadian Game Award. This also saw him mocap the performances for many of the NPC’s, and was movement choreographer, specialising in gesture and physicality. Once privately described by a colleague as “The Swiss Army Knife” of Motion Capture acting, Pascal has worked on numerous video games since his first role as Ethan Mars in Heavy Rain, in Voice, Mocap and Performance capture, Actor performance matching, reverse ADR, Facial Capture Operation and demo production.

Pascal co-wrote "Performing for Motion Capture" for Bloomsbury Methuen, with Director and Co-founder of The Mocap Vaults, John Dower. This is the world's first in depth resource for the education of the next generation of actors facing an increasing use of digital production not only drawing on the combined experience of the MCV teachers, but also conducting interviews with over twenty experts in all stages of the pipeline.

A born Londoner, Pascal is a graduate of The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art 3 year acting course, who made Toronto his home in 2011. He has credits in supporting roles in more than 100 TV, film roles, in the past decade in Canada, these include Killjoys, Bitten, Suits, and the Randal Okita movie, "See for Me".

Pascal is an active mentor and instructor in “Embodied Acting”, using Laban Technique and his own Psycho-Physical technique, that draws on nonverbal behavior studies. He does this through his company Collective Intent, and as head of the Canadian branch of The Mocap Vault.

*Please note that this class does not make use of mocap technology. At this stage, the technology serves only as a distraction and slows down the process considerably. We introduce the mocap studio tech later on in our curriculum.

HOW TO FIND THAT ARTS GROUP REHEARSAL ROOM

The building s at the corner of Dupont and Bartlett - a short walk east from Dufferin.

The upstairs rehearsal hall has the red door with yellow stars. Both are located on the east side of the building beside the Luxury Car Rental garage door.

Parking

There should be neighbourhood parking on streets nearby. We ask that unless it's an accessibility issue folks not park in the parking lot on the premises as it technically belongs to the luxury car rental and they need to access the space at all times.
